Sprite showerfilters are a high quality KDF based shower filter.
The High Output Sprite is one of our best products in terms of customer satisfaction. People love what filtered water does to their skin and hair.
Probably you have heard that you are likely to take more chlorine into your body from your shower than from the water you drink. The skin soaks up chlorine readily, and you breathe in much air-borne chlorine in the shower. A good shower filter protects you and adds to the pleasure of showering. Your skin, your hair, and your eyes will feel the difference.
Shower filter technology is a challenge. Filter carbon, which is the hands-down champion at chlorine removal, has limited effectiveness in shower filters, where a small amount of the filtering agent is required to handle a large amount of water quickly. Hot water adds another challenge for carbon.
Because of these problems, most shower filter makers rely on a metallic medium called KDF. Shower filter sellers typically show impressive charts that demonstrate long-term removal of chlorine. However, if you read the tests carefully, you’ll see that they apply to “free chorine” (chlorine that has not combined with other constituents in water), and the unfortunate reality is that KDF-filters have little effect on “total chlorine” (combined chlorine), which is the form in which chlorine exists in most tap water. In fact, chlorine is often added at the water plant as a blend with ammonia called “chloramine.” KDF is not effective at removing chloramine or combined chlorine in general.
Although Sprite has added a patented mineral salt to its main KDF formula for the removal of certain forms of combined chlorine, you should not expect Sprite filters to remove chloramine in all applications.
For some time, we sold only one of the several Sprite filter styles — the one that seems to us the most effective and practical shower filter currently manufactured. It's the “High Output Shower Filter,” which uses a replaceable filter cartridge. The Sprite cartridge features a KDF/mineral salt combination whose lifespan depends on the amount of chlorine in the water treated as well, of course, as the number of showers taken. The manufacturer recommends replacement after six to eighteen months. We've found that on our local water eight to twelve months is a typical replacement figure. Once a year is a good change schedule for most situations.
We carry both the standard white plastic model and the heavy-duty all brass chrome model.
The “high output” cartridge is free-flowing and much less prone to premature failure due to blockage than all-KDF units. The High Output is also the easiest shower filter to install and to service that we've found.
We sell the filter only without a shower head, since we've found that most people throw away the plastic showerhead that comes with shower filters anyway and replace it with their original shower head.
Sprite Shower Filters feature replaceable cartridges with Sprite's exclusive ShowerX Filtration Technology for NSF Certified reduction of free and combined chlorine. This is our favorite Sprite offering. It’s simple, dependable, attractive, and durable.

Suggested Maintenance | The cartridge is reversible. It can be easily rotated to operate in either direction. Although rotating the cartridge is not necessary, and many users don’t bother, periodically reversing the cartridge backwashes the cartridge as it is filtering, ensures balanced filtration, reduces the likelihood of channeling, and should prolong the life of the cartridge. The manufacturer recommends monthly reversal of the cartridge. |
